Following the formal departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union, as of 1st January 2021 we are no longer shipping to any destinations within the European Union and we are not shipping to Northern Ireland.
If you would like some background, feel free to read on.
Prior to BREXIT, any perfumes products for sale in the EU, such as those by modernist fragrance, had to be notified to the EU using the Cosmetics Product Notification Portal (CPNP) which requires a Responsible Person (an individual or company) established - basically based - in the European Union to be the contact point and, as the name implies, responsible for ensuring that the product has been manufactured to the relevant EU safety standards and that assessments to prove this have been carried out by recognised bodies or persons.
Modernist Fragrance Ltd. is a U.K. based company with no presence or establishment in any other EU jurisdiction and prior to BREXIT was the Responsible Person for notifying modernist fragrance products for sale across all of the EU.
With effect 31st December 2020, access to the EU CPNP portal was withdrawn to any UK Responsible Persons or legal entities. We undertook an analysis in early 2020 to understand the additional costs of either establishing or setting up a subsidiary outside the UK or appointing (and paying) a representative to be the EU Responsible Person for Modernist Fragrance Ltd. As a small business, this was unfortunately prohibitively expensive.
In order to continue to sell modernist fragrance products in Great Britain, we have completed a cosmetic product notification to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) as required. This database is for England, Scotland and Wales only.
In order to sell our products in Northern Ireland we would have to follow a separate process which is to notify them to the EU using the Cosmetics Product Notification Portal (CPNP)....well you can go back to the first paragraph to understand that process.
